About This Service
The Child Protection - Information Sharing (CP-IS) service helps health and social care workers share information securely to better protect children and young people who are known to social care because they are:
- looked after
- or have a child protection plan
CP-IS links IT systems across health and social care in England to help organisations share information securely.
The implementation of CP-IS across Health Providers and GP Practices in North West London will strengthen
the safeguarding of children by enabling healthcare professionals to access
real time crucial safeguarding information about children
subject to a Child Protection Plan, Looked After Children, and unborn children
with protection concerns.
To access CP-IS the
healthcare practitioner must have a smartcard which is activated to allow
access to CP-IS. Once this is in place the healthcare practitioner can look up
a child on the National Care Record System (NCRS) using the NHS Number and
check for the CP-IS alert.
If the child is subject to
a child protection plan or looked after by a local authority there will be a
CP-IS alert. The CP-IS alert for unborn babies subject to a child protection
plan will be on the mother’s record.
No clinical
information is shared on CP-IS.
